I graduated with my Masters degree from a Conservatory over a year ago - since then I had moved to the lowcountry area of SC with family...I've been trying to build a private piano studio here but cannot gain a lot of students (I had talked to other private piano teachers in the area and they are having trouble retaining students because of the economy). Anyway, I would really like to move to Pennsylvania or a surrounding area since I am originally from NY and I miss the many cities and recreation that is up there...if anyone is familiar with the amount of piano studios in Eastern Pennsylvania (Harrisburg, Hershey, Allentown...any of those areas along Eastern PA), or even NJ, MD, etc. would you mind giving me your thoughts on what cities/towns have a lot of students and demand for private piano teachers and what areas to avoid? I would love to live near Allentown or Hershey...but I know Hershey may be a small area compared to Allentown. Any advise? Someplace that I can gain a good number of students quickly and be able to afford living there? I also play an orchestral instrument and freelance with orchestras, which is why I would ideally live near several cities so I can freelance with my other instrument on the side.
